Gay Travel Tips for Cancun

By Ricardo d Argence

If you are going to Cancun on vacation, you are definitely going to enjoy it. Of course getting ready is important, so take a look at the time and money you have. You have options to cruise there or to fly to the area. Planning on going with a friend? Make sure you come up with limitations and then plan away.

If you plan on taking a cruise, more than likely you will leave from Galveston or Miami to go to Cancun. Usually the ships take off in the evenings. Those who live in the west will end up going on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera.

Planning on flying? If you book the flight as well as the hotel together you can really save some money. Using a travel agent is okay, but if you do so, ensure that they lay out all that will be included in the cost you are paying for your vacation.

Be certain whether your destination is Cancun Playa del Carmen or Cancun Calica. Playa del Carmen is a beach town with tours to ruins and a biosphere reserve, with tropical forests and habitat preserves. Calica features white sand beaches and a lively night life, as well as tours to ancient Mayan ruins or a nature park.

Make sure you buy some sunscreen. Since you will probably spend quite a bit of time in the water, make sure that it is waterproof too.

Before you leave, talk to your cell phone company to find out if there are roaming fees while you are vacationing in Mexico. This will be important knowledge to know if you want to call back to family or your office.

Most of your money should be in traveler's checks. Most establishments are happy to have American money, but if you exchange cash for pesos, do it at a bank. Carry your theft information for your traveler's checks separately from the checks, and if you have a credit card be certain you have theft protection. If you do have pesos, be careful not to tear them, and do not accept torn bills, because the Mexican government does not honor torn money.

You should be tipping your night club service, wait service, and the hotel staff. Usually ten to fifteen percent is a good rule of thumb.

If you are going to travel by cab, let them know where you are going and come up with an agreed upon price. You don't have to tip the cab driver.

When you are walking to your destination, never go by yourself. Remember, pedestrians in Mexico are not given the right of way, so be very careful.

Ask your hotel staff for recommendations on the types of places you want to visit. The Karamba night club in Cancun comes highly recommended for gay nightlife.

It doesn't matter how you are planning to get to Cancun, make sure that you check to see if there are restrictions on luggage you need to know about. This may include weight, size, pieces, and charges for extra. It's a good idea to know boarding restrictions too. Planning your trip is important. You'll have a great time doing it and you'll be sure that your trip goes as planned without any problems. - 29868
