How To Treat Serious Illness During Caribbean Holidays

By Edward Watkinson

Although people plan their annual holiday after careful planning, and after much thought, so that they can have the best time, but sometimes these holidays are spoiled due to some unforeseen reasons. Illness, and misfortune are two things that you cannot avoid no matter ho hard you try. However, the one thing that you can do is to keep your mind prepared for any type of circumstances.

There are certain places where tourists often become ill, because of the climate changes, and due to taking unhealthy foods. Different gastric illnesses, salmonella, and E Coli are some diseases that often catch the tourists during their holidays. Therefore, tourists have to be very careful in this regard, be it a visit Caribbean, or some other destination.

It is often said that prevention is always better than cure. You must be prepared, and take all the preventive measures to ensure that nobody gets sick during the trip instead of medicating them after they get sick. Still, it happens that after so much care, you still get sick, and in that case, you should immediately take measures to get well. There are always doctors available in almost every resort, and hotel in the Caribbean, so if you get sick you can consult them. Nevertheless, sometimes they might not be available, so in that case, you must go to the doctor in the nearby area.

You can also contact to your tour representative to get medical treatment, and if it is not possible for you to contact him/her, you can ask from your resort or hotel reception to get medical treatment.

Although you have to incur expenses at the spot, but when you get back you can claim these expenses, so you must carefully keep all the receipts. If you have a travel insurance policy, you must check if it would fly you home for the treatment. If you have minor illness, it is quite possible that it will not cover it, so you should better get the treatment where you are staying. In case you have some serious illness, or some bad injuries, then it is very important that you must rush back home to get treatment at the hospital near to your home.

For the past few years, there has been a dramatic increase in the cases of different gastric illnesses in the Caribbean, which usually indicates bad hygienic conditions in the restaurants, and kitchens of the hotels. You must not take the food if you think it is infected with bacteria; the second step is to make a complaint against it.

If the food was included in the tour package of the resort, or the hotel where you were staying, then you can claim against them. Once you get back to UK, you must immediately seek some legal help to settle your claims against the tour operator. Do not try to work out the claim with the tour operator by yourself.

Food poisoning is the major issue that the tourists have to face when they are on a holiday to any place such as Caribbean, therefore you must take care of this if you do not want to ruin your holiday. You can also seek advice regarding the hotels, and the resorts from other tourists who have been there before. - 29868
